One year after India launched Operation Sindoor in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, leaders across the country on Thursday paid tribute to the armed forces and highlighted the operation as a major example of India’s zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism.
The anniversary of the military action was marked with messages from top political leaders, commemorative videos from the armed forces, and renewed emphasis on national security and defence preparedness.
PM Modi Salutes Armed Forces
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the armed forces for carrying out the operation with “bravery, precision and determination.” In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said Operation Sindoor reflected India’s firm resolve against terrorism and showcased the growing strength of indigenous defence capabilities.
He stated that the mission demonstrated the coordination between the Army, Air Force and other security agencies, while reaffirming that India would continue efforts to destroy terror networks threatening national security.
Rajnath Singh Calls Mission A Benchmark In Modern Warfare
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described Operation Sindoor as a defining example of India’s military readiness and strategic capability.
In his statement, Singh praised the armed forces for their “unmatched precision, seamless jointness and deep synergy across services,” saying the operation had created a new benchmark for modern warfare practices.
He also linked the success of the mission to the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, stating that India’s push for defence self-reliance had strengthened operational capability on the battlefield.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Pays Tribute
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also honoured the armed forces and called Operation Sindoor a decisive answer to terrorism.
Sharing a special tribute video online, Fadnavis said the operation sent a strong warning to forces attempting to destabilise India’s security and sovereignty.
Senior BJP leader Vinod Tawde termed the operation a symbol of the “indomitable courage and valour” of Indian soldiers and said the “new India” responds firmly to terror threats.
Armed Forces Release Commemorative Videos
To mark the anniversary, the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army released special videos remembering the operation and honouring the personnel involved.
The Indian Air Force, in its message on X, wrote: “Justice served. Precise in action, eternal in memory, Operation Sindoor continues. India forgets nothing, India forgives nothing.”
The videos highlighted aerial strike footage, military coordination and the role played by security forces during the operation.
What Was Operation Sindoor?
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, weeks after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that killed 26 civilians.
India carried out precision strikes targeting terror infrastructure linked to terror groups including Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
According to official statements released at the time, more than nine terror camps were destroyed and over 100 terrorists were eliminated during the operation.
Four Days Of Rising India-Pakistan Tensions
Following the strikes, military tensions between India and Pakistan escalated rapidly, with reports of missile activity, drone engagements and cross-border military exchanges over four days.
The confrontation eventually de-escalated on May 10 after diplomatic efforts and international engagement helped reduce tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
Operation Continues To Shape India’s Security Narrative
The first anniversary of Operation Sindoor is being observed as a reminder of India’s evolving counter-terror strategy and the increasing role of coordinated military operations in national defence policy.
Political leaders and defence officials said the operation remains a symbol of India’s commitment to protecting its citizens and responding strongly to terror attacks.
