BPF Leads in 10 of 15 BTR Seats, BJP Ahead in 3 as NDA Gains Strong Early Edge in Assam Elections

Early counting trends from Assam’s Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) indicate a strong performance by the Bodoland People’s Front, which is emerging as the dominant force in the region. According to data from the Election Commission, the party is currently ahead in a majority of the 15 Assembly constituencies that fall within the BTR.

The BPF, an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party under the NDA umbrella, is leading in around 10 seats, putting it in a commanding position to shape the political direction of the region. The BJP itself is ahead in three constituencies, contributing to the alliance’s overall strong showing in the area.

Meanwhile, the United People’s Party Liberal, which previously governed the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), appears to be trailing behind its rivals, managing a lead in only one seat so far. The Indian National Congress has also secured a lead in one constituency, indicating limited traction in the region.

The BTR, governed by the Bodoland Territorial Council under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, includes key districts such as Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri and Tamulpur. Political developments here are closely watched due to the region’s strategic and administrative significance.

Seat-sharing arrangements within the NDA saw the BPF contesting the majority of the constituencies, while the BJP fielded candidates in a smaller number of seats. On the other hand, the UPPL contested all seats but has not matched the momentum of its rivals in the early rounds.

While these are still initial trends and subject to change as counting progresses, the current numbers suggest a consolidation of support in favour of the BPF-led bloc in the Bodoland region. If sustained, this performance could reinforce the NDA’s broader position in Assam and influence the political balance within the autonomous council area.
