Party Dismisses Alliance Speculation, Targets Clear Majority
Riding on optimistic exit poll readings, Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has expressed strong confidence about forming the next government in Tamil Nadu following the single-phase polling held on April 23.
Senior party leaders ruled out any possibility of a post-election alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam or the National Democratic Alliance, asserting that the party is aiming for an outright majority on its own.
“Targeting 180–200 Seats,” Says Leadership
TVK leadership has set an ambitious goal, claiming the party is on track to secure between 180 and 200 seats in the 234-member assembly. Party functionaries said Vijay is poised to take charge as Chief Minister, projecting him as a leader with a forward-looking vision for the state.
They also described the 2026 election as a potential turning point, highlighting the party’s rapid rise and its campaign against established political forces.
Exit Polls Paint Mixed Picture
While TVK remains upbeat, most exit polls indicate that the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam led by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin is likely to retain power in the state.
However, some projections suggest that TVK could play a crucial role in government formation. Surveys by Axis My India estimate the party could win between 98 and 120 seats, while Today’s Chanakya projects around 63 seats, with a margin of error.
AIADMK-Led Bloc Faces Uphill Battle
Exit poll trends also suggest that the AIADMK-led alliance may struggle to make a strong comeback in the state, indicating a shifting political landscape.
High Voter Turnout, Counting on May 4
Tamil Nadu witnessed a voter turnout exceeding 85% across all 234 constituencies during the April 23 polling. The results will be declared on May 4 by the Election Commission of India.
