Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, known for performing his own stunts and action sequences, recently revealed three terrifying moments during film shoots when he narrowly escaped death. The actor also spoke about how his wife, author and former actress Twinkle Khanna, reacts to the risks he takes on set.
Akshay recalls dangerous stunt incidents
During a recent conversation on journalist Subhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel, Akshay Kumar opened up about a life-threatening moment while shooting for Sainik. He said that while moving from one building to another during a stunt sequence, his hands gave up midway and he thought he would fall.
He said, “Ek baar Sainik mein hua tha. Ek building se doosri building jaate-jaate mera haath thak gaya tha, and I thought mein chala jaunga.” He explained that at that time there was no VFX support, and actors had to perform such scenes themselves.
‘Half of my body could have been cut off’
Akshay also recalled a shocking moment during the filming of International Khiladi, when a boat stunt nearly turned fatal. He revealed that a catamaran was approaching from the front while his boat was supposed to pass through a narrow gap.
He said, “International Khiladi mein, boat ke scene mein mera aadha shareer cut jaata… main poora cut ho jaata, lekin bach gaya.”
Another close call during Khiladi 786
The actor revealed another near-death incident while filming Khiladi 786, where he had to jump and dive onto a hot air balloon during an action sequence. According to Akshay, even that stunt could have gone horribly wrong, but he escaped safely.
Twinkle Khanna’s reaction
When asked whether his wife asks him to stop performing such risky stunts, Akshay said that she no longer tries to stop him because she knows he will continue.
According to Akshay, Twinkle believes, “Woh aa jayega, theek-thaak aa jayega,” showing her trust in him. However, the actor also stressed that while performing stunts, one must always remain cautious and prioritise safety.
