Congress leader Rahul Gandhi strongly criticised the central government after a tragic attack in Manipur claimed the lives of two young children. Expressing grief, he said the incident reflects the continuing violence in the state even after several years.
He wrote, “The news of the murder of two tiny children sleeping in the home of a BSF jawan in Manipur is heart-wrenching. Even after three years, innocent children are still suffering in the fire of violence, and no sign of peace is visible.” He questioned the government’s response, adding, “When will this government wake up? Until when will Manipur keep counting the bodies of its own?”
Call for Peace and Immediate Action
Rahul Gandhi stressed that peace is the only solution to the crisis and urged the government to take immediate and concrete steps. He said, “Manipur is not just a state—it is a responsibility. A mere statement or symbolic visit is not enough. Strong action is needed before the situation goes completely out of control.”
Manipur Government Orders NIA Probe
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh condemned the attack and announced that the case will be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He said the decision was taken after discussions with senior leaders and security officials.
The Chief Minister stated that the attackers are yet to be identified and assured that strict action will be taken. “The culprits will be caught at the earliest,” he said.
Security Tightened After Brutal Attack
The attack took place in the Tronglaobi Awang Leikai area, where suspected militants targeted a house around 1:00 AM. A five-year-old boy and his five-month-old sister were killed while sleeping, and their mother was injured.
Following the incident, a massive search operation has been launched involving state police, Assam Rifles, and CRPF. Helicopters are also being used to track down the attackers. Authorities have suspended internet services in five districts—Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur—for three days to maintain law and order.
