Mumbai is set to get a major public transport upgrade as Metro Line 9 between Dahisar East and Mira Bhayandar will be inaugurated on April 6, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik confirmed. The launch was earlier delayed due to technical and operational factors, but authorities have now fixed the new date.
Trial Run Completed Successfully
A successful trial run for Phase 1 of the corridor was conducted on April 2 between Kashigaon and Dahisar, indicating operational readiness. The inauguration, earlier scheduled for April 3, was postponed to ensure all systems are fully prepared.
Safety Review by MMRDA Officials
Senior officials from Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, led by chief Sanjay Mukherjee, conducted a detailed inspection. The review focused on safety measures, station readiness, and overall operations before opening to the public.
Route Details and Key Stations
Metro Line 9 Phase 1 spans 4.5 km, connecting Dahisar East to Kashigaon, with stations at Pandurang Wadi and Miragaon. Despite being a short stretch, it plays a key role in expanding metro reach into the northern suburbs.
Seamless Connectivity a Major Boost
The corridor offers strong connectivity benefits. At Dahisar East, it links with Metro Line 7, enabling direct travel towards Andheri East. It also connects to Metro Line 2A, improving access to Andheri West and other areas.
Relief for Mira-Bhayandar Commuters
The Mira-Bhayandar region, which heavily depends on road transport, is expected to benefit significantly. The metro will provide faster, more reliable travel and help reduce traffic congestion across key routes.
