“Mafia Rule in Assam?” — Priyanka Gandhi’s Sharp Attack on BJP Sparks Political Row

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a strong attack on the BJP government in Assam during her visit to Nazira in Sivasagar ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

She alleged that the current administration is marked by corruption and intimidation, claiming that governance in the state is being driven by “mafia rule” and “syndicate rule.”

“This is a corrupt government. People can see how everything is being done through threats. There is mafia rule, syndicate rule. I think people are tired,” she said, addressing supporters.

Call for Political Change in Assam

Priyanka Gandhi said that the people of Assam are now looking for change and want a government that genuinely works for them.

“They want the same Assam to rise, which once existed. They want a new government that would only work towards serving people. People know that our leader is honest and they want to bring him forward,” she added.

Her remarks come at a time when political campaigning is intensifying in the state, with both the Congress and BJP trying to strengthen their positions ahead of the polls.

Response to Zubeen Garg Controversy

Reacting to allegations by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma that the Congress is politicising the issue surrounding singer Zubeen Garg, Priyanka Gandhi rejected the charge.

She said that raising public concerns should not be seen as politicisation, especially when people are demanding justice.

“I honestly don’t believe such things should be politicised. But when people feel that someone they respected is not getting justice, then as politicians, it is our duty to ensure that every effort is made to deliver justice. How is that politicisation?” she said.

Political Battle Heats Up

The exchange highlights the growing political tension in Assam as elections approach. While the BJP is focusing on governance and development, the Congress is targeting issues of corruption and public dissatisfaction.
