A tragic incident unfolded in Bihar’s Nalanda, where at least eight women lost their lives and several others were injured after a stampede-like situation broke out during a religious gathering at the Sheetla Temple on Tuesday.
The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Massive Crowd Led to Chaos
“There was a massive crowd. People didn’t even have space to enter the temple,” a person at the hospital told ANI, highlighting the lack of proper crowd management.
Many devotees had reportedly arrived on an empty stomach, and due to extreme heat and congestion, several people experienced low blood pressure and fainted, which worsened the situation.
“People Were Trampled” – Eyewitnesses
A woman who had come from Patna broke down while recounting the horror.
“There was a massive crowd. Four of us had come from Patna. We got separated. People were trampled on,” she said, describing how panic spread among devotees.
Delay in Emergency Response Questioned
Serious questions have been raised over the delay in emergency response.
Witnesses claimed that ambulances arrived late at the scene, adding to the chaos and possibly worsening the situation for the injured.
Investigation Likely
Authorities are expected to probe the incident, focusing on crowd control arrangements and emergency preparedness at the temple.
