Himanta Biswa Sarma predicts BJP landslide in Assam, says Congress won’t cross 20 seats

With just days left for the Assam Assembly elections, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp attack on the opposition, dismissing the Congress manifesto as “empty” and predicting a massive victory for the BJP-led alliance.

‘Sub-20’ Prediction for Congress

Campaigning across Upper Assam, including Sissiborgaon and Sadiya, Sarma claimed that the Indian National Congress would struggle to cross even 20 seats in the 126-member Assembly.

He projected:

  • BJP/NDA: 90–100 seats
  • Congress: 15–17 seats
  • AIUDF: 5–6 seats
  • Raijor Dal: 1 seat
  • AJP: 0 seats

“Crossing 90 seats is definite,” Sarma said, expressing confidence in a decisive mandate for the NDA.

Calls Congress Manifesto ‘Empty’

Sarma criticised the Congress manifesto, calling it a “document of silence” with no clear promises.

“There isn’t a single memorable promise, no roadmap for jobs, and zero clarity on education,” he said, alleging that the party has failed to present a credible vision for Assam.

Targets Mallikarjun Kharge

Taking aim at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sarma termed his presence at the manifesto launch as “disrespectful” to Assam.

He accused Kharge and his leadership of undermining the state’s interests, including remarks related to cultural icons and development projects like the semiconductor initiative in Jagiroad.

“Justice Delivered by Courts, Not Govt”

Responding to Congress claims on delivering justice in key cases, Sarma said that judicial outcomes cannot be influenced by political promises.

“Justice is delivered by courts, not by Chief Ministers,” he said, adding that the government’s role is limited to investigation and ensuring accused remain in custody.

BJP Intensifies Campaign

Sarma highlighted that the BJP has stepped up its campaign efforts, covering multiple constituencies such as Majuli, Naoboicha, Sissiborgaon, and Sadiya, with roadshows planned in key areas like Dibrugarh.

High-Stakes Battle Ahead

As the election date nears, the political battle in Assam has intensified, with sharp exchanges between the BJP and Congress.

Sarma’s bold seat prediction sets the stage for a high-voltage contest, with the final outcome expected to shape the state’s political future.
