Amid rising tensions in the Middle East and concerns over energy supply, India has received a major boost as an LPG-laden vessel, Jag Vasant, safely reached Vadinar port in Gujarat carrying around 16,000 metric tonnes of cooking gas.
The arrival of this shipment is being seen as a significant relief for the country at a time when the Strait of Hormuz remains under high-risk conditions due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
Arrival of Jag Vasant Brings Immediate Relief
Currently anchored about 10 nautical miles from Vadinar port, the vessel is undergoing strict security and operational procedures before unloading begins. Authorities have increased vigilance in the port area to ensure smooth and safe handling of the cargo.
The LPG from Jag Vasant will be transferred to a smaller vessel named “Rose,” which will help distribute the supply further into the domestic network.
Safe Passage Through Strait of Hormuz
In another major development, two Indian LPG carriers, Jag Vasant and Pine Gas, have successfully navigated through the sensitive Strait of Hormuz. Together, these vessels are carrying over 92,600 metric tonnes of LPG, ensuring continued energy supply to India.
The ships, operated by Indian crew members, crossed the strategic route despite heightened geopolitical risks, highlighting strong maritime coordination.
Ships Were Earlier Stranded in Gulf
According to officials, these vessels were part of 22 Indian-flagged ships that were stranded in the Persian Gulf following escalation in the conflict. The situation had nearly disrupted movement through the narrow waterway connecting oil-producing nations to global markets.
Their successful transit marks a major breakthrough in restoring supply chains.
Previous LPG Shipments Also Reached India
Earlier, LPG carriers MT Shivalik and MT Nanda Devi had already reached Indian shores, delivering over 92,700 tonnes of LPG. This quantity is nearly equal to one day’s cooking gas consumption in the country.
These successive arrivals have helped stabilise supply and reduce fears of shortages.
Government Focus on Energy Security
With multiple shipments arriving and more expected soon, the situation is gradually stabilising despite ongoing global tensions.
