Manish Tewari Supports India’s Neutral Stand on Iran Israel US Conflict

Congress MP Manish Tewari has supported the Union government’s measured approach to the escalating conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States, stating that India must prioritise its strategic autonomy over taking sides in a complex geopolitical crisis.

“Not India’s War,” Says Tewari

Speaking on the issue, Tewari emphasised that the current situation in West Asia is not a single conflict but a series of overlapping tensions. He said India has traditionally remained a marginal player in the region and should avoid getting drawn into disputes that do not directly affect its core interests.
He remarked that the ongoing confrontation is far more complex than a simple regional war and warned against oversimplifying the situation.

Strategic Autonomy Key to India’s Policy

Highlighting the importance of a balanced response, Tewari said India is “doing the right thing” by remaining cautious. According to him, strategic autonomy allows the country to safeguard its interests while navigating global tensions without unnecessary confrontation.
He stressed that foreign policy should be driven by national priorities rather than emotional or political pressure.

India’s Balanced Diplomatic Approach

Since the beginning of the crisis, India has consistently called for dialogue and diplomacy while maintaining ties with all sides. New Delhi has managed a delicate balance—condemning certain actions while also engaging with key players to protect its economic and energy interests.
India has also stepped up engagement with Iran to ensure uninterrupted oil and gas supplies, especially through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, which handles a significant portion of global energy shipments.

Conflict Escalation Raises Global Concerns

The crisis escalated on February 28 after coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel inside Iran. Tehran retaliated with attacks on military-linked targets across the Gulf, intensifying fears of a wider regional war.

India Watching Situation Closely

With millions of Indians living and working in the Gulf region, and heavy dependence on energy imports, India is closely monitoring developments. The ongoing tensions pose risks to global supply chains, oil prices, and regional stability.

Tewari’s remarks underline a growing consensus that India must tread carefully in global conflicts, focusing on protecting its national interests while avoiding entanglement in volatile geopolitical battles.
