In a shocking incident from Motihari, Bihar, India, a notorious gangster who openly challenged the police was killed in a violent encounter that also claimed the life of a police constable. The gangster, identified as Kundan Thakur, had issued chilling threats just days before the gun battle.
An audio clip that has now surfaced reveals Thakur daring the police to confront him. In the recording, he is heard warning that “10 to 15 policemen” would lose their lives in an encounter while he would escape, showcasing his brazen confidence.
Direct Challenge to Police Officials
The audio, recorded two days before the encounter, captures Thakur speaking to a deputy station officer of Chakia police station. He boldly declared that he would appear at any location chosen by the police and face them head-on.
Thakur also accused the police of harassing his family and warned of retaliation if such actions continued. When questioned about his threatening tone, he dismissed it as mere “advice,” further underlining his defiance.
Late-Night Operation Turns Deadly
According to police sources, Thakur had been under surveillance for a long time. Acting on specific intelligence, a special police team set up a blockade late at night to trap the criminals.
However, as soon as the police team reached the location, they were met with sudden and heavy gunfire from the gang. During the exchange, an STF jawan was critically injured and later declared dead at the hospital, triggering grief and anger within the force.
Police Retaliate, Three Criminals Killed
Despite suffering a loss, the police retaliated in self-defence. The intense gun battle that followed resulted in the deaths of Kundan Thakur and two other criminals at the scene. The area reportedly echoed with gunshots for an extended period during the operation.
East Champaran SP Swarn Prabhat confirmed that Thakur had been repeatedly threatening the police and that multiple attempts had been made earlier to arrest him.
Shelter Providers Arrested
During the operation, police also arrested the owner of the house where the criminals were hiding, identified as Ujjwal Kumar, along with his father. Authorities are now interrogating them to determine the extent of assistance provided to the gang.
Heavy Police Deployment After Encounter
Following the encounter, heavy police deployment has been made in the area to maintain law and order and prevent any further incidents. The case has once again highlighted the risks faced by police personnel while tackling hardened criminals.
