A helicopter belonging to the Iranian armed forces crashed into a crowded fruit and vegetable market in central Iran on Tuesday, leaving four people dead and causing widespread panic in the area.
Casualties and Official Confirmation
Officials confirmed that at least four people lost their lives in the incident. Those killed include the helicopter’s pilot and co-pilot, along with two civilians who were working at market stalls when the aircraft came down.
Location and Scale of Impact
The incident took place in Dorcheh town of Isfahan province, located near Khomeinishahr and about 330 kilometres south of the capital, Tehran. The market was busy at the time of the crash, increasing the scale of damage.
Fire Erupts After Impact
Television footage broadcast by state media showed debris scattered across the marketplace, with flames and thick smoke rising from the wreckage. The crash triggered a fire, which was later extinguished by emergency and firefighting teams.
Cause of Crash and Training Mission
Initial reports suggest that the military aircraft was conducting a routine training exercise when it encountered trouble and crashed. Rescue teams rushed to the site to control the fire and secure the area.
