The Indian Embassy in Mexico has released a safety advisory for Indian citizens living in Mexico after violent incidents broke out in several regions. The unrest followed reports of the death of a major cartel leader, leading to increased security operations and public disorder.
Indian nationals have been advised to remain indoors and avoid travel until the situation becomes stable.
Advisory Covers Multiple Mexican States
According to the embassy, road closures, police action, and criminal activity have been reported in various parts of the country. Indian citizens living in the following areas have been urged to take extra precautions:
- Jalisco state, including Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and Chapala
- Tamaulipas, especially Reynosa and nearby towns
- Parts of Michoacán, Guerrero and Nuevo León
The embassy said residents should stay alert, follow local instructions, and limit movement.

Death of Cartel Leader Triggers Violence
The unrest reportedly began after the killing of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho”. He was the head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, one of the most powerful criminal groups in Mexico.
Reports suggest he was injured during a military operation in Jalisco and later died while being transported for treatment. Several other cartel members were also killed, while some security personnel were injured during the operation.
Clashes, Roadblocks and Arson Reported
Soon after the incident, violent clashes were reported in multiple regions. Videos shared on social media showed burning vehicles, blocked highways, and attacks on public places such as fuel stations and shops.
In some areas, armed groups were seen attempting to disrupt daily life, while security forces were deployed in large numbers to regain control. Authorities said that while the situation remained tense in some locations, operations were ongoing to restore order.
Mexican President Appeals for Calm
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the nation and urged people to remain calm. She confirmed that the security operation led to temporary disturbances, including roadblocks in certain states.
She said the federal government was working closely with state authorities and assured citizens that most parts of the country were functioning normally. The president also praised the armed forces and security agencies for their coordinated response.
Embassy Monitoring Situation Closely
The Indian Embassy said it is closely monitoring developments and will issue further updates if required. Indian citizens in Mexico have been advised to stay connected with official channels and seek assistance if needed.
