New Delhi: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju launched a sharp attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, stating that the government had initially planned to bring a formal Motion against him over alleged violations during his Budget speech.
Addressing the media, Rijiju said, “Govt had decided to move a Motion. Rahul Gandhi violated rules and mentioned an unpublished book in an illegal manner; he also mentioned several things in his Budget speech – ‘country sold out’ and other nonsense for the PM. There are several issues over which we wanted to give him a notice. Private Member Nishikant Dubey has brought a Substantive Motion, so for now, we are dropping the Motion that the Govt was going to bring…Any MP can bring a Motion. After the Substantive Motion is admitted, we will decide after discussing with the Speaker whether we can send this to Privilege Committee or Ethics Committee or bring this directly to the House to discuss. It will be decided.”
Rijiju clarified that while the government had been preparing its own Motion, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has already submitted a Substantive Motion on the matter. As a result, the government will now wait for procedural developments in the House.
The Minister indicated that once the Motion is formally admitted, further action could include referring the issue to the Privilege Committee or Ethics Committee, or holding a direct discussion in Parliament. He emphasized that the final decision would be taken after consultations with the Speaker.
