Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday made a forceful statement on illegal immigration while addressing a public gathering in Assam, asserting that decisive action has already been taken and more stringent steps will follow if the BJP returns to power.

Highlighting what he described as a major achievement of the BJP government, Shah said, “A vast area of 26,000 hectares of land has been cleared of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, and this has been achieved by the Bharatiya Janata Party government.” He claimed that the removal of illegal settlements has helped protect Assam’s land, resources and demographic balance.

Issuing a strong political and administrative assurance, the Home Minister added, “Today, I make a promise on the land of Assam’s second capital; under the leadership of Hemant, if the BJP forms government for the third time here, every illegal immigrant will be removed from Assam, one by one.” His remarks were met with loud applause from supporters at the rally.

Amit Shah further criticised illegal settlers, stating that their presence harms both the state and the country. “These illegal settlers do not contribute to Assam or the nation,” he said, stressing that national security and the rights of indigenous people remain top priorities for the central and state governments.
