Delhi: India marked its 77th Republic Day with a strong message of unity, progress, and national resolve, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to citizens and urged them to recommit themselves to building a developed and self-reliant nation.
In a message shared on social media, the Prime Minister described Republic Day as a symbol of India’s pride and constitutional strength. He said the occasion should inspire fresh energy among citizens and deepen the collective determination to achieve the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ in the coming years.
Republic Day commemorates the historic moment on January 26, 1950, when India adopted its Constitution and formally transformed into a sovereign, democratic republic governed by the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. The day stands as a reminder of the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle and the vision of the Constitution’s framers.
The main national celebrations are being held at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu is presiding over the grand parade. This year’s event carries added international significance with the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, attending as chief guests, highlighting India’s growing global engagement.
The ceremony began with Prime Minister Modi paying homage to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial, followed by the traditional parade showcasing India’s military strength, cultural diversity, and developmental achievements. The event also reflects the spirit of self-reliance, national pride, and citizen participation that has become central to modern Republic Day celebrations.
