Davos, Switzerland: MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, held high-level strategic meetings with global infrastructure and academic leaders at the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026, securing knowledge partnerships aimed at strengthening Mumbai’s urban transport and development ecosystem.
On the first day of the summit, Dr Mukherjee met Paul Dyson, CEO of Crossrail International, a UK-based specialist advisory firm supporting major transport infrastructure programmes across the world. The meeting reaffirmed collaboration between MMRDA and Crossrail International, with both sides agreeing to explore structured knowledge sharing and capacity-building initiatives for metro rail systems and urban mobility planning in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
In another significant engagement, the MMRDA delegation interacted with Professor Chris Bush from the University of California, Berkeley. The discussions focused on academic exchange, joint research programmes and innovation in urban development. This partnership will help position Mumbai as a knowledge-driven city and supports the state government’s vision of developing Mumbai as the Talent Capital of India and Asia.
The MMRDA delegation is part of the larger Maharashtra government team led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and includes Additional Metropolitan Commissioner-I Vikram Kumar and other senior officials. The objective of the Davos visit is to attract global funding and advanced technology partnerships to fast-track infrastructure and economic development across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
As Maharashtra advances towards its ambitious goal of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy, WEF 2026 is serving as a critical global platform. High-level interactions with global investors, industry leaders and policymakers are aimed at boosting foreign direct investment, catalysing industrial partnerships, generating employment and promoting sustainable economic growth in the region.
