Mumbai: UNICEF YuWaah has been appointed as the official Youth Engagement Partner for Mumbai Climate Week (MCW) 2026, scheduled from February 17 to 19 in Mumbai. In collaboration with Project Mumbai and YuWaah, UNICEF India will spearhead month-long youth engagement activities starting January, creating platforms for children and young people to actively shape climate action and policy discourse.
Mumbai Climate Week is India’s first city-led climate platform aimed at accelerating citizen-driven solutions for urban resilience. Designed to translate global climate goals into locally-led action, the initiative recognises climate change as a critical child rights issue. Through this partnership, UNICEF India, YuWaah and Project Mumbai will amplify youth voices and solutions during the week-long event and on-ground activities.
UNICEF India Representative Cynthia McCaffrey said,
“Children and young people are powerful agents of change. By placing them at the centre of climate solutions, we work with governments to protect their rights and build a cleaner, safer future. Mumbai Climate Week will enable youth to lead practical climate solutions, including addressing challenges such as e-waste.”
Campus Climate Roadshows
Ahead of MCW, UNICEF YuWaah will conduct Campus Climate Roadshows across select Mumbai colleges from February 9 to 16, 2026. The roadshows will showcase a large e-waste installation created under Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE – Special Campaign 5.0, led by the Department of School Education & Literacy and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The installation highlights youth-led action on responsible consumption and waste management. By taking this initiative to college campuses, the campaign aims to strengthen student participation and connect campus engagement with policy conversations at MCW.
Youth Green Innovation Challenge
To further encourage youth leadership, UNICEF YuWaah is supporting the Youth Green Innovation Challenge, a national platform for changemakers aged 16–24. Young innovators are invited to submit solutions under three themes:
• Food Systems
• Urban Resilience
• Energy Transition
Selected innovators will showcase their ideas at MCW, engage with policymakers and experts, and explore opportunities for scaling their solutions.

UNICEF’s Climate Action Work
UNICEF India integrates climate action across health, nutrition, education, WASH and child protection programmes. This includes climate-resilient health systems, heat action plans, climate-smart schools, and flood- and drought-resilient water services.
UNICEF also supports youth-led climate initiatives through platforms such as Meri LiFE, which has recorded over 31.9 million pro-planet actions, and Maharashtra’s Youth Engagement and Water Stewardship programme, reaching over one million young people.
