Mumbai: In the aftermath of its landmark success in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s newly elected corporators came together for a reflective interaction with renowned spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in Mumbai on Sunday. The delegation was led by Mumbai BJP President Ameet Satam and included all 89 corporators who secured victory in the 2026 civic polls.
The meeting marked a symbolic pause after a fiercely contested election, blending celebration with contemplation. For the BJP, the BMC result represents a turning point in Mumbai’s civic politics. Emerging as the single largest party in the 227-member municipal body, the party has significantly altered the balance of power in India’s wealthiest civic corporation.
During his address, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar congratulated the corporators on their electoral achievement and drew attention to the rare political alignment currently in place. He pointed out that with the BJP-led alliance governing at the national, state and municipal levels, Mumbai now finds itself under what is often described as a “triple-engine” administration. According to him, this alignment brings not only administrative strength but also heightened public expectations.
He urged the corporators to stay grounded and focused on Mumbai’s pressing challenges, emphasising that sustained engagement with citizens would be key to their success. He advised them to clearly identify priority issues affecting everyday life in the city and to remain accessible to the people who elected them.
Moving beyond governance, the spiritual leader spoke about the inner discipline required in public life. He suggested that leadership effectiveness is shaped not just by effort and policy, but also by clarity of intent and emotional balance. Maintaining a calm and positive mindset, he said, would help leaders make better decisions and withstand the pressures of public office.
