Mumbai: Maharashtra Minister and BJP leader Chandrakant Patil on Friday expressed doubts over the newly forged alliance between Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) during the ongoing Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election counting. Patil claimed that the public viewed the Thackeray cousins’ partnership as motivated by personal and political gains rather than citizen welfare.

“Whether the Thackeray brothers come together or Congress and NCP join hands, it is not in the interest of the people. People have understood that this is for their own selfish motives,” Patil said, addressing reporters.

Patil expressed strong confidence in the BJP-Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) alliance, predicting that it would comfortably cross the halfway mark of 114 seats in the BMC, with an expected combined total of 130 seats. “This number may increase but will not decrease,” he added.

The counting of votes is also underway for 28 other municipal corporations across Maharashtra. Patil indicated optimism regarding BJP’s performance in Pune, asserting that the party would secure no fewer than 115 seats in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), while projecting 90 seats for BJP and 40 for Shinde’s Shiv Sena in Mumbai.
