Hindu Auto Driver Killed in Bangladesh’s Feni District, Fresh Case Deepens Minority Safety Concerns

Dhaka: A fresh incident of violence has shaken Bangladesh’s Feni district, where a young Hindu man was found murdered under brutal circumstances, adding to growing concerns over the safety of minority communities in the country.

The victim, identified as 27-year-old Samir Das, worked as an auto-rickshaw driver in Daganbhuiyan upazila. According to local reports, his body was discovered on Monday in an agricultural field in Jagatpur village, sending shockwaves through the area.

Family members said Samir had left his home on Sunday evening in his autorickshaw for routine work but did not return. As hours passed with no contact, relatives and locals began searching nearby areas. The search ended tragically when villagers noticed a body lying in a field on the outskirts of the village and alerted authorities.

Police who reached the spot found multiple sharp-injury wounds on the body, suggesting a violent attack. Preliminary findings indicate that Samir may have been taken to a secluded location and killed during an attempt to rob his autorickshaw, which remains missing.

Confirming the incident, the officer-in-charge of Daganbhuiyan Police Station said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination at Feni General Hospital. He added that a special investigation team has been formed to identify the perpetrators, recover the stolen vehicle, and ensure swift arrests.

This killing is being seen as part of a troubling trend, with several incidents involving members of the Hindu community reported in different parts of Bangladesh in recent weeks. Rights groups and community leaders have repeatedly expressed alarm over the frequency of such cases and the sense of insecurity among minorities.

Earlier this month, India officially voiced concern over repeated attacks on minority communities in Bangladesh, particularly Hindus, and stated that it is closely monitoring the situation. New Delhi also urged that those responsible for communal violence be brought to justice to prevent further escalation.
