Iran’s political crisis deepened on Friday as Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei delivered a firm warning amid expanding protests across the country. Addressing the unrest, Khamenei made it clear that the Islamic Republic would not bend under pressure and would firmly oppose what he described as interference linked to foreign interests.
In a televised message, Khamenei said the system would stand its ground and reject anyone accused of acting on behalf of outside powers. According to him, such individuals would find no acceptance either within the state or among the public. His remarks came at a tense moment, as reports of widespread internet restrictions emerged, limiting access across several parts of Iran for a second consecutive day.
Meanwhile, images and videos circulating online have drawn global attention. Some clips show women publicly defying authority by burning photographs of the Supreme Leader, a rare and symbolic act of protest that highlights growing anger, particularly among younger Iranians.
The current wave of demonstrations is being described as the most intense in nearly three years. The unrest reportedly began in Tehran’s historic Grand Bazaar, where traders and shopkeepers took to the streets to protest the sharp collapse of the national currency. What started as economic anger has now widened into broader opposition, spreading to multiple cities and regions.
Rising prices, shrinking incomes, and job insecurity have pushed many Iranians to the edge. Official figures show inflation crossing the 50 per cent mark, adding pressure on households already struggling with daily expenses. While the government has admitted that economic conditions are severe, it continues to blame foreign-backed groups for fueling the unrest.
International reactions have also added to the tension. US President Donald Trump recently issued a warning to Tehran, saying Washington would respond strongly if peaceful protesters were harmed. His remarks further intensified the standoff between Iran and the West at a time when domestic stability inside the country appears increasingly fragile.
