Mumbai: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya on Thursday accused Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate and former Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar of submitting a “false affidavit” by hiding details of alleged criminal cases against her.
In a post on social media platform X, Somaiya claimed that Pednekar failed to disclose two FIRs in which she is allegedly named as an accused. One FIR is linked to the controversial “body bag scam,” while the other involves a case with the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA). Somaiya also alleged that a third FIR has been registered against M/s Kish Corporate Services India Pvt Ltd, a company he says is connected to Pednekar, which she did not mention in her election affidavit.
Somaiya has formally submitted a complaint to the Returning Officer of G South Ward, asserting that Pednekar’s affidavit violates mandatory disclosure norms. He stressed that under Indian election law, all candidates are legally required to declare any pending criminal cases, and failure to do so can result in penalties, including potential disqualification after the election.
Varshani Rao, the Returning Officer for G South Ward, confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that the matter is under review. Somaiya added that he has been asked to submit an affidavit supporting his complaint, which he intends to file on Friday.
