Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday, accusing it of fielding candidates with criminal backgrounds in key elections across Maharashtra. Speaking to reporters, Raut said the BJP has transformed into what he called a “party of goons,” citing the inclusion of notorious individuals among its election candidates.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party has now become a party of goons. You may know this very well. It has turned into a goon party. Their allies include notorious criminals from Maharashtra, and such people are contesting elections for their party in Pune, Mumbai, and Nashik,” Raut said.

The remarks come as political temperatures rise ahead of local body and civic elections in Maharashtra, where parties are vying for control of major cities. Raut’s comments are likely to intensify debates over candidate selection and criminal records in politics.

He also emphasized that his party would continue to highlight issues of governance and public welfare, contrasting them with what he described as the BJP’s reliance on muscle power and criminally connected allies.
