“Is Rahul Gandhi Running an International Narrative Against India?” BJP Targets LoP Over Germany Visit

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday mounted a sharp attack on Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of promoting an “anti-India narrative” during his recent visit to Germany and questioning his association with the Global Progressive Alliance.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, party national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged that the Global Progressive Alliance is not a neutral international forum but a network that, according to him, includes forces hostile to India’s interests. He claimed the alliance has links to organisations funded by American billionaire George Soros, which the BJP has repeatedly accused of interfering in the internal affairs of sovereign nations.

“Is Rahul Gandhi running an international narrative against India?” Trivedi asked, asserting that the Congress leader’s overseas engagements raise serious questions about intent and accountability.

The BJP spokesperson further claimed that Rahul Gandhi holds a leadership position within the Global Progressive Alliance. Referring to past public statements, Trivedi said that senior Congress figure Sam Pitroda himself had acknowledged Gandhi’s role in the alliance’s praesidium, while Pitroda is listed as a member. “This makes Rahul Gandhi part of the decision-making structure of this organisation,” he alleged.

Questioning the Congress party’s claims about global democratic solidarity, Trivedi challenged the narrative of a so-called alliance of 110 democratic countries. He argued that many nations included in such counts either function as monarchies, theocracies, or authoritarian regimes. “The Congress must clearly explain which countries they are referring to and how they define democracy,” he said.

The BJP also flagged Rahul Gandhi’s meetings in Germany, alleging that he interacted with individuals linked to institutions accused of taking positions against India. According to Trivedi, such engagements add to concerns about the Congress leader’s repeated criticism of India on foreign soil.

The Congress has not yet responded to the BJP’s latest allegations. However, party leaders in the past have maintained that Rahul Gandhi’s international interactions are part of routine political and academic engagements and have rejected claims of acting against national interest.
