Patna: Bihar witnessed a landmark political moment on Thursday as Nitish Kumar was sworn in as Chief Minister for an unprecedented 10th term, reaffirming his long-standing influence over the state’s governance. The swearing-in ceremony, held at Patna’s iconic Gandhi Maidan, drew the presence of top national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, and chief ministers from multiple BJP-ruled states.
Governor Arif Mohammed Khan administered the oath to Kumar, who at 71 remains one of India’s most seasoned political figures. Although a member of the legislative council (MLC), Kumar did not contest the recent assembly polls.
Alongside him, 26 MLAs from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) took oath as cabinet ministers, signalling the formation of a broad-based government reflecting the coalition’s sweeping mandate in the 2025 Bihar election.
