Kashmir Counter-Intelligence Wing Raids 13 Locations Linked to Delhi Terror Blast; DNA Confirms Dr. Mohd Umar’s Identity

Kashmir: In an intensified crackdown following the Delhi terror blast, the Counter-Intelligence Wing (CIK) of Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted simultaneous raids at 13 locations across the Valley on Thursday.

According to officials, the searches targeted premises associated with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) organisation in several districts of Kashmir. The raids come in the wake of the Delhi blast, which investigations have linked to Dr. Mohd Umar, a Pulwama-based doctor whose DNA has now been confirmed through a match with his mother’s sample.

Sources said Dr. Umar was absconding after the J&K Police, in coordination with the Haryana Police, dismantled a terror module operating out of Faridabad. Two of his close associates — Dr. Adil from Kulgam and Dr. Muzammil Ganai from Koil village in Pulwama — were arrested earlier this month.

The investigation has uncovered a disturbing network of radicalized professionals allegedly involved in terrorist operations. Among those detained is Dr. Shaheen Shahid, a woman doctor from Lucknow who worked alongside the trio at Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad. She was arrested after police recovered an assault rifle from her car. Her brother has also been detained by the Lucknow Police for questioning.

Dr. Adil’s arrest came after CCTV footage showed him putting up posters of the banned outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). Investigators later recovered an AK-47 rifle from his locker at the Government Medical College in Anantnag, where he had resigned in October 2024. His interrogation led to the arrest of Dr. Muzammil Ganai, who was also teaching at Al-Falah Medical College. The J&K Police subsequently recovered over 2,900 kilograms of ammonium nitrate from a location linked to Ganai in Faridabad.

Following these revelations, the Union Home Ministry (MHA) has transferred the Delhi blast probe to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a comprehensive investigation.

The emergence of a terror module allegedly operated by educated professionals has alarmed intelligence agencies. Officials have termed it a case of “white-collar terrorism,” underscoring the evolving face of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
