New Delhi: In a major revelation in the Red Fort blast case, investigation sources have identified Dr. Umar Mohammad, a resident of Pulwama, reported India TV, as the man who drove the car that exploded near the Red Fort Metro Station on Sunday evening.
According to police officials, the 30-year-old doctor was allegedly at the wheel of the Hyundai i20 used in the explosion that claimed at least nine lives and injured several others. His mortal remains were recovered from the scene and later taken to LNJP Hospital on Monday for identification and further examination.
Investigators have found CCTV footage from the vicinity that shows the suspect driving moments before the blast. Sources told India TV that Dr. Umar had close links with a terror module operating out of Faridabad, from where a massive cache of explosives — including over 360 kilograms of ammonium nitrate — was seized earlier this week.
Preliminary forensic analysis indicates that ammonium nitrate, fuel oil, and detonators were likely used in the explosion, police sources revealed.
