Mumbai: Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar, confirmed that the party’s stance regarding the upcoming Mumbai municipal elections has been finalized. Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Wadettiwar revealed that the local Congress leadership in Mumbai has expressed a strong desire to contest the civic polls independently rather than as part of an alliance.

“Our decision regarding the Mumbai municipal elections has been made. Our local members want to contest independently and they have also made their decision,” Wadettiwar stated.

He further added that the issue had been discussed with the Congress high command in Delhi, who left the final decision to the state and local leadership. “We spoke with the high command and they too said that considering the local political situation, we should take the decision ourselves,” he said.
