Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav’s Facebook account was restored on Saturday, a day after it was suspended by Meta, sparking a political uproar. The suspension on Friday triggered accusations from SP leaders, who alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was behind the action.
In his first post after regaining access, Yadav paid homage to Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan, sharing his image and writing, “By total revolution I mean seeing the most oppressed person in society at the pinnacle of power.”
Yadav’s verified Facebook page boasts over eight million followers. The precise reason for the suspension remains unclear, fueling widespread speculation and political debates.
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw addressed the controversy, denying any government involvement. He clarified that the action was taken solely by Meta, stating, “The action has been taken by Facebook. The government has no role in it. An abusive post was made from his account, because of which Facebook has taken this decision according to its own policies,” as reported by News18.
