Karur: Actor-turned-politician Vijay, chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has begun personally reaching out to the families affected by the tragic Karur stampede during his rally last month. The incident claimed 41 lives and left over 100 injured, sending shockwaves across Tamil Nadu.

According to India Today sources from Vijay’s team, the actor has conducted video calls with 4–5 families, including women and children, who lost their loved ones in the tragedy. Each call reportedly lasted about 20 minutes, during which Vijay expressed his deep condolences and assured them of his support.

Vijay informed the families that he intends to visit them in person soon, citing “certain difficulties” preventing an immediate visit. He had earlier announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for each victim’s family.

“I am with you, I will stand by you,” Vijay reportedly told the grieving families. His team also requested the families not to record or photograph the video calls to maintain privacy.

While several TVK functionaries have been arrested in connection with the incident, Vijay himself has not been named in any FIR. The Madras High Court last week criticised the party’s lack of visible remorse and called out their reckless conduct. The court also ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by senior IPS officer Asra Garg, to probe the stampede, which occurred as fans jostled to catch a glimpse of the actor during his rally.
