New Delhi: In a shocking incident at the Supreme Court of India on Monday, a 71-year-old lawyer, Rakesh Kishore, attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai during court proceedings. The accused was immediately overpowered by security personnel and detained.
According to reports, the incident occurred in Court No. 1 while a bench comprising CJI Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran was hearing a petition filed by Rakesh Dalal, seeking directions to restore Lord Vishnu’s idol at the Javari temple, part of the historic Khajuraho monuments in Madhya Pradesh.
Eyewitnesses told Hindustan Times that as Kishore was being escorted out, he shouted, “Sanatan ka apman nahi sahenge” (“will not tolerate insult to Sanatan”). The lawyer reportedly had a proximity card, which grants access to lawyers and clerks in the apex court.
