Washington: In a dramatic late-night statement, United States President Donald Trump urged Israel to “immediately stop the bombing of Gaza” following signs that Hamas has partially accepted his peace initiative aimed at securing the safe release of hostages.

“Based on the Statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE. Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the Hostages out safely and quickly! Right now, it’s far too dangerous to do that,” Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Trump emphasized that negotiations, led by Egypt and Qatar, are ongoing and extend beyond Gaza. “This is not about Gaza alone, this is about long sought PEACE in the Middle East,” he noted.

In a video message, the U.S. President thanked nations including Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan for contributing to the mediation efforts. “So many people fought so hard. This is a big day. We’ll see how it all turns out,” Trump said, adding that his priority remains ensuring hostages are safely reunited with their families.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel is preparing to implement the “first stage” of Trump’s plan, vowing “full cooperation” with Washington to achieve peace while upholding Israel’s principles.

According to the proposal, Hamas would release the remaining 48 hostages—around 20 believed to be alive—within three days, surrender power, and disarm. In return, Israel would halt its military offensive, withdraw from much of Gaza, free hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, and facilitate large-scale humanitarian aid and reconstruction. The controversial plan to relocate Gaza’s population abroad would be abandoned.

Hamas, while indicating readiness to free hostages and hand over authority to other Palestinian factions, stressed that key aspects of the agreement still need wider consultation. Senior Hamas officials acknowledged that “major disagreements” remain unresolved.
