Leh: Signs of normalcy returned to Leh on Friday as authorities relaxed curfew hours, allowing shops and markets to open between 10 AM and 6 PM. After days of restrictions, residents cautiously stepped out to resume daily activities.

Markets, shut since the September 24 violence, reopened with shopkeepers lifting shutters and customers purchasing essentials. Locals said the easing of restrictions has brought much-needed relief to families and small businesses struggling with limited supplies.

Officials said the decision to extend relaxations was taken after reviewing the law and order situation, which has remained under control since the violence. Security forces, however, continue to maintain strict deployment across sensitive areas to prevent any flare-ups.

The gradual return to routine comes nearly ten days after police firing during protests left four civilians dead, sparking anger across Ladakh and leading to curfew and an internet shutdown in Leh. While movement restrictions have eased, mobile internet services remain suspended.

Authorities added that relaxations will continue if peace prevails, though public gatherings remain banned.
