Andha Pradesh: India registered a commanding victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 T20 final, winning by five wickets, with Tilak Varma emerging as the hero of the chase. The 23-year-old southpaw scored an unbeaten 69 runs off 53 balls, guiding India to chase down Pakistan’s target of 147 runs.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu lauded Varma’s stellar performance on X, writing: “What a star! Our Telugu boy, Tilak Varma, absolutely owned the pitch with a match-winning innings to take India to victory! His composure and brilliance under pressure are inspiring. This is the fire Telugu boys are made of. Well done, Tilak, we’re proud of you!”

A native of Hyderabad, Varma represents Hyderabad in domestic cricket and plays for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He came to the crease when India was in trouble at 10/2, and after the team lost three wickets for just 20 runs, he built crucial partnerships — 57 runs with Sanju Samson and 60 runs with Shivam Dube — steering India to a thrilling win.

On the bowling front, India’s attack restricted Pakistan to 146 runs, despite a strong start of 84/1 in the first 10 overs. Kuldeep Yadav led the charge, taking key wickets and triggering a collapse that prevented Pakistan from batting their full quota of 20 overs.

The post-match presentation saw drama off the field, as Team India refused to accept the trophy and medals from Mohsin Naqvi, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairperson and Pakistan’s interior minister. Reports indicated that Naqvi took the Asia Cup trophy and medals with him after the presentation.
