Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Bairabi–Sairang New Rail Line, a project worth over ₹8,070 crore that will, for the first time, connect Mizoram’s capital Aizawl to the Indian Railways network.

The mega project, built through challenging hilly terrain, includes 45 tunnels, 55 major bridges, and 88 minor bridges. It is considered one of the most complex and ambitious railway infrastructure undertakings in the Northeast region.

Alongside this milestone, the Prime Minister will also flag off three new express trains — the Sairang (Aizawl)–Delhi (Anand Vihar Terminal) Rajdhani Express, the Sairang–Guwahati Express, and the Sairang–Kolkata Express.

With Aizawl now gaining direct connectivity to the national capital through a Rajdhani Express, the new link is expected to boost trade, travel, and economic opportunities in Mizoram and across the Northeast.
