Lucknow: A disturbing incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district has sparked outrage after a woman’s body was carried on a motorcycle to the cremation ground due to the unavailability of a hearse. The shocking visuals, filmed by a passerby, show the body being transported to the Sato Ghat cremation site.
The deceased was identified as Buddharani, a resident of Mohabbatpur Jeeta village. She reportedly died under mysterious circumstances. Her relatives alleged foul play, claiming she may have been murdered. Following a postmortem examination, the police handed over her body to the family, who then resorted to carrying her on a two-wheeler after claiming no hearse service was available.
The video, which quickly went viral on social media, drew sharp criticism from Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. Sharing the clip on X, Yadav wrote, “What could be more shameful than this. There is nothing more to say to either the Chief Minister or the Health Minister.”
District Magistrate Madhusudan Hulgi has ordered an inquiry into the incident and sought a detailed report from officials.
Reports say Buddharani’s husband and son, who both work in Ghaziabad, were not present when the tragedy struck. The family claims that they had no choice but to transport the body by motorcycle.
This case comes close on the heels of a similar tragedy in Nagpur last month, where Amit Yadav, a daily-wage worker, tied his wife’s body to his motorcycle after she was killed in a road accident. He alleged that despite repeated pleas, no passerby or authority came forward to help. The couple, originally from Seoni, Madhya Pradesh, had been living in Lonara, near Koradi, for the past decade.
