Appeals to Leaders to Return 30% Commission Taken in Advance

Yavatmal: Thousands of contractors across Maharashtra are awaiting pending payments worth crores of rupees. Left without funds, many contractors have been pushed into distress and, tragically, some are taking their own lives. Farmer leader Kishor Tiwari has appealed for urgent measures to stop this spate of suicides and to save the lives of innocent small contractors.

Tiwari alleged that before the commencement of work, around 30% commission was forcibly taken from contractors by then MLAs, MPs, and political leaders. With payments now stalled, at least two indebted contractors are committing suicide every week. To prevent further tragedies, he urged that the ₹50,000 crore collected as commission by these leaders should be returned immediately.

He further claimed that a major share of this commission went to the then Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, senior BJP leader Girish Mahajan, and others. By March 2026, Maharashtra’s debt will cross ₹10 lakh crore, meaning every citizen will bear a burden of at least ₹80,000. This, he said, would be the most severe financial crisis since the state’s formation.

Devabhau’s Claim is False

On the very first day of the monsoon session, Finance Minister and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar presented supplementary demands worth ₹57,509 crore, which Tiwari said blatantly violated rules and were objected to by the Chief Secretary and Finance Secretary. The government is in such dire straits that it is borrowing even to pay salaries.

Therefore, the claim that all contractors in Maharashtra will have a good Diwali this year is completely false, Tiwari asserted. He alleged that only BJP-linked contractors, ministers, and MLAs will be paid, while others will be left to suffer. He criticised Devabhau for chasing publicity through advertisements instead of taking concrete measures to stop contractor suicides.
