Washington: Former US President Donald Trump on Sunday issued what he called a “last warning” to Hamas, urging the Palestinian militant group to accept a deal for the release of hostages held in Gaza. Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump noted that Israel had already accepted his terms and insisted that Hamas must follow suit.

“The Israelis have accepted my terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well. I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting. This is my last warning, there will not be another one,” Trump wrote, highlighting his involvement in the ongoing hostage crisis negotiations.

The warning comes amid rising violence in the region. On Sunday, the Israeli military reported two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip, striking near Netivot, approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) from Gaza. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that air raid sirens sounded, though there were no casualties or damage. One rocket was intercepted by Israel’s missile defense system, while the other landed in an open area.

The launch was claimed by Islamic Jihad, a Palestinian militant group that frequently coordinates with Hamas. The group stated the attack on Netivot was in retaliation for what it called “crimes committed by the Zionist enemy against our people.” This marked the first rocket fire in several months threatening the 50,000-resident town of Netivot.

The incident coincided with an escalation in Israeli military operations around Gaza City, as the IDF seeks to weaken Hamas and secure the release of hostages taken during Hamas’s October 7 attacks.
