Mumbai: Mumbai’s Crime Branch has nabbed a 50-year-old man from Noida after he allegedly sent a bomb threat message to the city police via WhatsApp. The accused, identified as Ashwin Kumar Supra from Bihar, claimed that “14 Lashkar-e-Jihadi terrorists had infiltrated Mumbai and planted 400 kilograms of RDX in 34 vehicles.”

The alarming message, received on the Mumbai Traffic Police’s WhatsApp helpline on Thursday, put security forces on high alert ahead of Anant Chaturdashi celebrations. Joint CP (Law & Order) immediately coordinated with Noida Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, and within hours, a joint Crime Branch and SWAT operation tracked down the accused at a housing society in Sector 79, Noida.

Investigators recovered the mobile phone and SIM card allegedly used to issue the threat. Supra, who has been working as an astrologer and Vastu consultant for the past five years, was swiftly taken into custody. He is now being brought to Mumbai for questioning to determine his motives behind creating panic.

Police sources confirmed that similar threat hoaxes had previously been sent to the same traffic police helpline. While the case has been registered under sections of criminal intimidation and other provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Crime Branch is probing whether the accused acted alone or was influenced by any larger network.
