Delhi CM Attack Case Takes Grim Turn: Attempt to Murder FIR Against Rajkot Man

New Delhi: In a dramatic escalation, Delhi Police on Thursday booked 41-year-old Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai Sakariya, the man who attacked Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, under attempt to murder charges. The FIR has been registered at Civil Lines Police Station under Sections 109(1), 132, and 221 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to officials, Sakariya was apprehended soon after the incident and remains in police custody. Investigators are seeking a five to seven-day remand to interrogate him further. Multiple teams from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Delhi Police Special Cell are now probing whether the assault was part of a larger conspiracy.

The attack took place during a public grievance hearing (“Jan Sunwai”) at Gupta’s camp office in Shalimar Bagh on Wednesday morning. Her office condemned the incident, calling it a “well-planned conspiracy to assassinate the Chief Minister.”

Preliminary investigations reveal that Sakariya had arrived in Delhi from Rajkot by train on Tuesday and checked into the Gujarati Bhawan in Civil Lines. Before the assault, he reportedly told a friend over a phone call that he had reached “the CM’s residence.”
