Uddhav Thackeray Urges INDIA Bloc Meeting Ahead of Bihar and BMC Polls, Backs Return to Ballot Papers

Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday called for a meeting of the INDIA bloc alliance partners, emphasizing the need for coordination ahead of crucial upcoming elections in Bihar and Mumbai.

“After the Lok Sabha elections, there has been no meeting of the Bharat Alliance and I want the meeting to be called as soon as possible because Bihar elections are coming closer, and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections will also be held in 2025,” Uddhav said, speaking to the media in Mumbai.

Thackeray also reignited the debate over electronic voting machines, voicing support for returning to ballot paper-based elections. “All elections should be held on ballot papers only,” he said. “If I am not wrong, US Presidential Elections are held on ballot papers, ballot papers are used for elections in the UK, then why can’t it happen here?”

On being asked about Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Bala Nandgaokar’s recent comment that Uddhav and Raj Thackeray had once fought elections together and might do so again if needed, Uddhav chose not to elaborate. “Raj Thackeray has asked his party spokesperson not to speak on the issue,” he responded, carefully avoiding speculation.
