Sivaganga: Shocking revelations have emerged from the postmortem report of B Ajith Kumar, a 27-year-old temple guard who died in police custody in Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu. The report, which was conducted more than 18 hours after his death, confirmed that Kumar had suffered multiple external injuries and signs of internal bleeding, pointing to custodial torture.
Sources confirmed that injuries were found on both sides of his head, along with internal hemorrhaging in the brain, heart, and abdominal area. However, the official postmortem did not specify the exact cause of death, leaving room for further investigation.
Kumar had been detained by police for questioning in connection with a theft at the Madapuram Kaliamman temple in Tirupuvanam. He died during the inquiry on June 28, sparking public outrage and demands for accountability.
Following the incident, six police personnel were suspended immediately. After the autopsy findings, five officers were arrested in connection with the alleged custodial torture.
In response to mounting pressure and to ensure transparency, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced the transfer of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The state government has stated that it will fully cooperate with the central agency during the probe.
The case has also been officially registered at the Tirupuvanam Police Station under Section 196(2)(a) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) Act, and a judicial investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran is expected to visit Kumar’s family at their residence in Thirupuvanam on Saturday to offer condolences.
