Arvind Kejriwal Announces AAP Will Contest Bihar Assembly Polls Alone, Rules Out Alliance with INDIA Bloc

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced that his party will contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections independently, ruling out any alliance, including with the INDIA bloc.

Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, Kejriwal clarified that the INDIA alliance, of which AAP was a part during the Lok Sabha elections, was limited only to the national level and will not be extended to state-level contests such as in Bihar.

“AAP will contest all seats in the Bihar Assembly election on its own. The INDIA alliance was meant for the Lok Sabha polls, and it doesn’t apply to Assembly elections,” Kejriwal said.

The announcement comes as Bihar gears up for its next Assembly polls, expected to take place in October–November 2025. The Election Commission has yet to officially declare the dates. All 243 constituencies in the state will go to polls, with the political landscape more dynamic than ever.

The last Assembly elections were held in October–November 2020, when the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) formed the government with Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister. In a series of realignments since then, Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) parted ways with the NDA in August 2022, allied with the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan, and again broke away from the alliance in January 2024 to return to the BJP-led NDA.
