“Emergency Was a Multifaceted Murder of the Constitution”: BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi

Indore: Marking the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi delivered a sharp critique of the period, describing it as a time of deep constitutional damage.

Speaking in Indore, on the occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, Trivedi said,
“There was a multifaceted murder of the Constitution during that period, and that is the greater issue.”

He invoked the legacy of Ahilyabai Holkar, calling Indore a “sacred land”, and linked her reverence for the nation to the present context.
“As we stand here on the sacred land of Indore, the blessed place of Ahilyabai Holkar, whose 300th birth anniversary we are celebrating, she too called this nation a sacred land, Bharat Mata,” Trivedi added.

The Emergency, declared in 1975 by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, remains one of the most controversial and debated events in India’s political history. The ruling BJP has been observing its 50th year as a reminder of the importance of democratic rights and constitutional values.
