CM Nitish Kumar Flags Off 618 New Police Vehicles to Strengthen Bihar’s Crime Response and Public Safety

Patna: In a decisive move aimed at strengthening law enforcement and public safety, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday flagged off a fleet of 618 new police vehicles from his official residence at 1, Anne Marg, Patna. The initiative, comprising 520 four-wheelers and 98 two-wheelers, marks a significant step towards modernising the state’s policing infrastructure ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.

The Chief Minister personally inspected the new fleet before the flag-off and engaged with police officials to understand deployment strategies and logistics. The newly inducted vehicles are expected to enhance mobility, reduce response time, and improve crime scene accessibility, particularly in rural and sensitive areas.

“This new fleet will improve policing efficiency across Bihar,” said CM Nitish Kumar. “It’s a critical step in ensuring our police personnel have the tools they need to protect our citizens swiftly and effectively.”

The event began with Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar welcoming the Chief Minister with a sapling, symbolising the government’s dual commitment to security and sustainability.

The enhanced vehicle fleet will be distributed across the state’s districts and police stations to support patrolling, emergency response, and criminal investigations. Authorities believe the added resources will help tackle Bihar’s rising crime rates, particularly in cases of murder, rape, and gang-rape, which have seen an uptick in the first half of 2025.

According to official police data, 233 murder cases have been reported so far this year — already surpassing 2024’s total of 232. Moreover, 490 cases of rape and gang-rape were registered in the first five months of 2025, underscoring the urgent need for improved law enforcement reach and mobility.

The move is being seen as part of the state government’s larger strategy to boost police visibility, increase citizen confidence, and counter rising concerns about law and order.

Key dignitaries present at the inauguration included Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, Principal Secretary to CM Dr. S. Siddharth, and senior police officials such as Garima Malik, Sunil Kumar, Ajitabh Kumar, and Kundan Krishnan.
