Mumbai: In a startling political statement, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has raised questions over possible sabotage or cyber interference in the tragic Air India AI-171 crash that took place in Ahmedabad, killing over 260 people. Raut’s remarks have added a new layer of speculation to an already sensitive investigation.
“I am not an expert, but there are serious questions about sabotage in the Air India plane that crashed in Ahmedabad within 30 seconds of takeoff,” Raut said on Saturday.
The senior MP questioned whether a foreign cyber attack might have compromised the aircraft’s systems, drawing attention to growing global concerns about cyber warfare targeting military and civil infrastructure.
“Was there any cyber attack on the system of the plane by any enemy country, as they try to target our military installations with their cyber attacks?” he asked, suggesting that the possibility should not be ruled out.
Raut also recalled the Boeing aircraft deal, pointing out that when it was signed, Praful Patel was the then Minister of Civil Aviation and the BJP was opposed to the deal. His comment subtly hinted at deeper political undertones behind the current state of aviation affairs.
“People are afraid of travelling by air now. Maintenance is the key for the aviation sector. Who has the maintenance contract for Ahmedabad? Why was Ahmedabad selected for this? Why did the accident happen to the flight from Ahmedabad airport?” Raut questioned.
The MP also criticized the conduct of senior government figures at the crash site, alleging insensitivity.
“The way ministers were behaving on the debris of the plane is really sad,” he said, referring to recent visuals from the crash zone.
