Maharashtra COVID Surge: Active Cases Cross 500, Officials Urge Calm Amid Mild Infections

Mumbai: The total number of active COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra has crossed the 500 mark, with the state reporting 86 new cases on Tuesday. Of these, Mumbai recorded the highest number at 26, followed by 24 in Pune, nine in Thane, and six in Navi Mumbai. With the latest additions, the total active cases in the state have reached 510, according to the Maharashtra state health department.

Mumbai alone has reported 509 COVID-19 cases since January 2025, with a significant surge noted in May, during which 503 cases were recorded. The state also registered two more COVID-related deaths, bringing the death toll to 14. Of these, 13 individuals had underlying health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer, interstitial lung disease, chronic bronchitis, and heart ailments.

Despite the recent uptick in cases, health officials have advised the public not to panic, stating that the current infections are mostly mild in nature. The health department noted that this sporadic increase in COVID-19 cases is being observed not just in Maharashtra, but in other states and countries as well.
