New Delhi: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing battle against Left Wing Extremism, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday hailed the killing of 27 Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district as a “landmark achievement in the battle to eliminate Naxalism.”
Taking to social media platform X, Shah stated, “Today, in an operation in Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh, our security forces have neutralised 27 dreaded Maoists, including Nambala Keshav Rao, alias Basava Raju, the general secretary of CPI-Maoist, topmost leader, and the backbone of the Naxal movement.”
He added, “This is the first time in three decades of Bharat’s battle against Naxalism that a general secretary-ranked leader has been neutralised by our forces.” The Union Minister lauded the efforts of the security personnel, saying, “I applaud our brave security forces and agencies for this major breakthrough.”
According to senior police officials, the operation was carried out in the dense Abujhmad forests of Narayanpur early Wednesday morning. All 27 bodies were recovered along with arms and ammunition. Among the dead was Basava Raju, one of the most-wanted Maoist leaders who carried a reward of ₹1.5 crore on his head.
The action was part of Operation Black Forest, which Shah said had led to the arrest of 54 Naxalites and the surrender of 84 others across Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Maharashtra.
